Edward Adkins’ energetic commitment to the real
estate development business in Florida has placed him
at the forefront of industry trends and advancements.
Constant analysis of investment goals, financing criteria
and construction processes drive Mr. Adkins to build
and direct MEL-RE GROUP to new and ever higher standards.
THE VALUE OF EXPERIENCE
The son of an independent Florida building
contractor, Mr. Adkins learned construction from ground
level. He added a college business education and project
management experience with leading industrial building
contractors in California and Southwest Florida.
In 1983, Mr. Adkins founded MEL-RE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT,
INC. and led the way in establishing the “design-build”
approach as the preferred method for commercial construction
throughout Southwest Florida. While steadily increasing
market share in a fast growing and highly competitive
industry, MEL-RE developed a reputation for quality
and reliability. In order to assure the availability
of readily buildable land, Mr. Adkins became increasingly
involved in land development, becoming a partner in
successful industrial parks in Fort Myers and Sarasota,
and several smaller office and mixed use projects.
As MEL-RE became a key figure in the growth of Southwest
Florida, Ed Adkins assumed leadership positions in professional,
civic and community organizations
where
his creativity and determination could produce widespread benefits. Meanwhile
he nurtured valuable relationships with financial institutions, government
officials and a wide array of allied professionals.
GROWTH AND INNOVATION
While overseeing remarkable growth in the construction
business, Adkins envisioned a “total service” development
process that could create real estate facilities and
investments that performed to prescribed financial
models. In
1996 he established MEL-RE GROUP, a closely controlled affiliation of
firms specializing in commercial real estate brokerage
and property management, construction, project
funding and asset management. He expanded the respective firms by recruiting
experienced professionals in accounting, asset management, real estate
development and commercial construction
Throughout the past decade, Mr. Adkins has continued
to be an innovator and proponent of the developer-led
design-build method. In the continuing effort to achieve
ever higher levels of quality and cost control, scheduling
flexibility, and accountability, he has greatly expanded
the role of the commercial real estate developer. By
controlling or collaborating with neighboring projects,
MEL-RE projects now set the standards that define business
districts and mixed-use neighborhoods.
With the eyes of an investor, developer and contractor,
Mr. Adkins knows first-hand the importance of controlling
costs, meeting schedules, and creating properties that
excel in marketability, function, and solid asset value.
